History of the rapier
Due to the appearance of the first firearms, heavy weapons, such as swords, ceased to be important. In its place appeared rapiers, which were lighter and later evolved into a much lighter and much more effective weapon (the rapier sword). Therefore, the rapier passed to a 2nd place, that is, to a more civil use.
The rapier used in bullfighting, the bullfighter's sword, appears at the beginning of the 9th century, with the consolidation of bullfighting at a popular level. Currently, during the slaughter, a simulated rapier is used, with a thick blade that does not cut, to hold and accompany the crutch. This avoids cuts and accidents that bullfighters once suffered. Once the task is finished, the bullfighter replaces said rapier with the "original", that is, the one with the sharp point.
Characteristics of the rapier of the bullfighters
Blade forged entirely of first quality steel. The tip is sharp and strong. Shear only in the last two thirds of the blade. The blade is not entirely straight, but has a curvature at the tip. This blade must measure a maximum of 88 centimeters (from the hilt to the tip).
