Griffin Viking shield pendant and amulet. This Viking pendant is adorned with the so-called griffin, whose representation is typical of the borre style of that time. The original, after which the dam amulet was designed, dates from the 9th century.
The impressive amulet of prey is one of only two examples to be found in England. Almost identical pendants with representations of prey animals in the Borre style are, however, particularly known in Scandinavia, z. B. from the Vårby, Tissoe and H aithabu hoard, where a mold for a prey trailer was even found.
The second of the great artistic styles of the Viking age is known as the Borre style and owes its name to the discovery of Borre's tomb in Vestfold, Norway.
