Alfonso X, nicknamed El Sabio was one of the most important monarchs of medieval Christian Spain. Son of Fernando III 'El Santo' (unifier of the kingdoms of Castilla y León), his reign lasted from the year 1252 until the moment of his death, in 1284.
Two aspects stand out in this Castilian monarch: his contribution to the formation of contemporary European culture and legislation and his determined implementation of it in our land. He established the foundations of current Murcian society and was the Spanish monarch with the greatest ties to Murcia. Its relationship with the Region began in the year 1243, when the then Prince Don Alfonso led the Castilian armies in their occupation of the Muslim kingdom of Murcia.
