Classified as a Type XIV Oakeshott, the original sword has a broad blade that tapers evenly to a sharp point to enhance its thrusting potential without sacrificing any of its cutting abilities. It is fullered on both sides about two-thirds of its length. The most notable feature of the sword is the enigmatic inscription N n SD engraved on the most complete: although the meaning of this sequence of letters, framed by two pattée crosses, remains a matter of speculation, experts tend to believe that the letters represent an abbreviated prayer or invocation of God, possibly IN NOMINE SANCTI DOMINI. the name of the Holy Lord), IN NOMINE SANCTI DEI (in the name of the Holy God), or IN NOMINE SALVATORIS DOMINI (in the name of the Savior and Lord).
Medieval one-handed sword, Lake Neuchâtel, with scabbard XIII century. This decorative one-handed sword is a very well preserved replica of a late 13th century sword. Archaeological piece recovered from Lake Neuchâtel (German: Neuenburgersee) Switzerland. The original find now belongs to the collection of the Swiss National Museum (Landesmuseum) in Zürich (item IN 6982).
The one-handed sword offered here is a faithful reproduction of this beautiful piece of medieval history. Engravings on the fuller width of the EN45 double-edged spring steel blade faithfully reproduce the markings that adorn the original. The edges are not sharp and the full tang of the blade is riveted to the pommel. The hilt is made up of a slightly downward curving crosspiece, a thick wheel pommel, and a wood core hilt with a tight blue leather cord binding. The guard and pommel are made of solid steel.
This medieval knight sword comes complete with a blue leather and wood scabbard with two adjustable carrying straps made of black leather and fitted with antique brass buckles.
Please note that this medieval sword is not a battle ready weapon. It is intended as a collector's item or decoration/display item and is not suitable for combat re-enactment. In addition to its quality as a collectible, it is also perfectly suited as an accessory, for example to complete your costume, and will make your transformation into a proud knight perfect.
