Medieval fencing, also known as HEMA ( Historical European Martial Arts ), is a combat sport that seeks to recreate fighting techniques and styles used in Europe during the Middle Ages. It is based on the study of ancient treatises and manuals to understand the theory and practice of fencing techniques used in medieval times.
HEMA practitioners use a wide variety of historical weapons, including swords, sabers, axes, spears, and more. As well as being an exciting way to exercise and learn about history, HEMA medieval fencing also encourages respect for the culture and traditions of medieval times.
