How is the Sword Colada del Cid

The Colada Sword is one of the two swords, along with the Tizona, that legendary tradition attributes to the Cid, until he gave them to his sons-in-law, the Infantes de Carrión. The Colada Sword is a bow sword, in the purest Renaissance style, but original from the 11th century.

History of the Colada Sword

La Colada del Cid had been won in combat by the warrior from Burgos against the Count of Barcelona. The sword was returned by them after the affront committed against their daughters Doña Elvira and Doña Sol in the town of Corpes and which gave rise to the name of the affront that narrates the song of Mío Cid.

After the incident El Cid had been disgraced and asks the king for justice. The trial ends with the "riepto" or duel in which the representatives of the cause of the Cid defeat the infants. They are disgraced in a public fair and their weddings are annulled, also returning the swords. Being Colada given again by the Cid to his knight Martín Antolínez.

Did the Colada Sword really exist?

All the information we have is through the Song of Mio Cid where the colada sword and the tizona are named but there is no historical treatise that can really corroborate the existence of these swords.

Who was the Cid Campeador

Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, known as the Cid Campeador, was an 11th-century Castilian knight who, independently and without paying vassalage to any king, managed to conquer the Spanish Levante, establishing his capital in Valencia.

Other Cid Campeador Swords

The other famous sword that is attributed to the Cid Campeador according to the Cantar del Mio Cid is the Tizón sword, a word that comes from the Latin titio, synonymous with embers, burning wood.

Colada Sword Replicas

The replicas that we sell of the Colada Sword are basically bow swords, in the purest Renaissance style, but that are supposed to be originals from the time of El Cid Campeador, eleventh century. Finishes, sizes and materials may vary.
