Decorated Viking helmet Valsgärde, Sweden S. VII

Decorated Viking helmet Valsgärde, Sweden S. VII. This beautiful and richly detailed Vendel-era helmet is a reproduction of an original find from a ship burial from Valsgärde (ship grave 8), a farm located on the banks of the River Fyris (Fyrisån) near Gamla Uppsala, Sweden. The tomb is dated to approx. 625 - 650 AD and the warrior's helmet was placed at his feet. The original piece is kept in the Gustavianum, Uppsala University Museum.

This replica is made of 2mm steel and equipped with a chain mail consisting of flat riveted rings with an inner diameter of 8mm. The plates are made of thinner steel (pressed sheets) and are fastened to the hull with brass straps/bands. The crest and eyebrows are also made of brass. The intricate patterns are accurate reproductions of the original motifs. The early medieval spectacled helmet comes complete with an adjustable leather liner and chin strap.

This helmet is designed as a decorative or collector's item and is therefore not suitable for combat re-enactment.
