Roman Imperial Gallic Weisenau helmet with crest

Roman Imperial Gallic Weisenau helmet with crest. This authentic reproduction of a Roman officer's helmet with hinged cheek pieces is made from 1.2mm (18 gauge) polished steel and richly embellished with brass fittings. The interior is not lined, but a padded cotton cap is included in delivery, making the helmet fully wearable. Additionally, small rings are placed on the inner side of the cheek plates to easily attach a chin strap (not included).
The black and white bicolor crista, which is believed to have been reserved for Roman soldiers vested with special command within a cohort (such as the optiones, seconds in command below the centurions), is made of natural horsehair. A brass shield mount is included for a proper fit to the helmet.

This Roman helmet (also called a galea or cassis) is an exact replica of a mid-1st century AD Imperial Gallic 'G' Weisenau helmet recovered from the Rhine River in Mainz-Weisenau, Germany. The remarkably well-preserved original iron and bronze artifact is on display for people to admire at the Museo im Andreasstift in Worms, Germany. Typical features of this particular type of helmet were (amongst others) the sloped neck guard, distinctive brows, frontal reinforcement, and decorative circular ridges/rosettes.
