Medieval battle gauntlets, Visby Type III, 14th century.

Medieval battle gauntlets, Visby Type III, 14th century. These brigantine gauntlets are based on a find (#3) from the site of the Battle of Korsbetningen (Island of Gotland, Sweden), just outside the city walls of Visby, where an army of Gutnish farmers and peasants fighting against the conquest of Gotland by the Danes was crushed by the forces of King Valdemar IV of Denmark (Valdemar Atterdag) on July 27, 1361.

The battle gauntlet offered here as a pair is hand forged from 1.5mm thick steel. The small steel plates that make up the large bracelet, the back of the hand and the fingers are covered in strong leather and fastened with steel rivets. The protective upper features additional metal plates on the outside (covering the knuckles, the entire thumb and parts of the fingers) and is sewn onto a soft leather glove. For a custom, comfortable fit on the wrist, the long, stitched cuff is equipped with an adjustable leather strap and brass buckle.
