Brigantine armor type Birka, leather and metal

Birka type brigantine armor made of leather and metal. This reproduction of an early medieval lamellar breastplate is made from 1.25mm thick D-shaped steel slats and leather. It has shoulder/arm protections, a full back and is equipped with three adjustable leather straps with bronze buckles on one side.

Finds from Birka and Visby (Sweden) have provided evidence that this type of armor was very popular among North Germanic peoples during the Viking Age. But scale armor remained in use until the late Middle Ages, as finds from the Battle of Visby in 1361 AD have shown.
