Windlass Steel Crafts was established in 1941 manufacturing Kukris for the British Army. Its alliance with the American company Atlanta Cutlery Corp. makes it one of the main suppliers of swords and sabers to the United States Marine Corps.

Windlass has also participated in major film and television events. Products such as the Spanish gladiator helmet from the movie Gladiator have left the Windlass factory.
