Knight Templars or Order of the Poor Knights of Christ was one of the most famous Christian military organizations in history. It was founded in 1119 after the First Crusade by nine French knights, commanded by Hugo de Payens. Its purpose was to protect the lives of Christian pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem. He had organized a crusade to recapture Jerusalem from the Muslims. The crusade was a success and the pilgrims began to travel to Jerusalem to pray at the tomb of Christ. As the long journey from Europe was most pilgrims traveled with all its assets, or at least a lot of money, constituting a very appetizing to highwaymen and bandits prey.
