Ishikawa Goemon (* 16th century; † August 10, 1594) is a Japanese folk hero. Like Robin Hood, he was said to steal from the rich and give to the poor. Even today there are many myths and legends about him, such as the failed assassination attempt on Toyotomi Hideyoshi, after which he was convicted and executed alive with other relatives by boiling oil.
