Round Viking Shield with Raven and Triquetras Motif, 61 cm Ø. The beautiful Viking shield that we offer you here is made of approx. 13mm thick plywood, covered in linen and elaborately embellished with so-called triquetras (clover or trinity knots) and ravens.
At its center, the shield features an oversized steel bulge that is held firmly in place with four rivets and leaves enough room to accommodate even the strongest of Viking hands. The back of the shield is painted black and provided with a solid wood handle.
The twin bird motif is a representation of Odin's faithful messengers Hugin and Munin (or Huginn and Muninn), a recurring motif in Celtic and Viking art. In Norse mythology, ravens fly over Asgard and Midgard, returning each night to the Father of the Gods (also known as Hrafnáss, the “raven god”) to tell him everything they have seen and heard.
Although this early medieval wooden shield may be a bit too light and thin for full contact, it is still a great prop for re-enactment, LARP, stage or TV/film and will make your transformation into a proud Norse warrior simply perfect. In addition, it is also a nice collector's or display piece for all Viking Age enthusiasts.
- Shield cap: total Ø approx. 17 cm, protrusion Ø approx. 12 cm, height of the bump approx. 7cm
