The Sutton Hoo archaeological site, located in the English region of East Anglia, includes numerous burial mounds. The most famous of these is a ship burial from which precious and well-preserved artifacts dating back to the 7th century were excavated. Probably the best-known finds from this tomb are the famous Sutton Hoo Helmet and the Great Gold Buckle, both significant testimonials to the quality of Anglo-Saxon craftsmanship.
For the ruling class of Anglo-Saxons and other Germanic peoples, elaborately decorated and sumptuous belts were outward symbols of status and prestige and, as such, indispensable accessories to clothing.

Elaborate Anglo Saxon belt from Sutton Hoo. This sturdy belt is based on the historic Sutton Hoo find. The intricately designed, imposing brass buckle is an accurately detailed reproduction of the original gilt buckle from the Ship's Tomb, which is on display for people to admire in the British Museum in London.
It is made up of three parts: a long, somewhat ovoid plate, a tang with a circular plate, and a rim (or frame).
The tongue and the ring are articulated independently. All components of the belt buckle are richly decorated: the long plate is completely covered with densely woven animals or animal-like creatures, from coiled snakes to entwined four-legged beasts and stylized bird heads, and attached to the belt with three rivets. ornamental hemispherical The serpentine-shaped serpentine motifs are repeated on the tongue, as well as on the two circular hardware on the belt,
