The other knights are said to have been Godfrey of Saint-Omer, Payen de Montdidier, Archambaud of Saint Agnan, André de Montbard, Godfrey Bison, and two others of whom only their names are known, Rossal and Gondamer. The name of the ninth knight is unknown, although some believe that he may have been Hugh, Count of Champagne.
Hugh de Payns served in Godfrey de Bouillon's army during the First Crusade. He founded in Jerusalem the order that would later become the Temple, and had its statutes approved at the Council of Troyes in 1128.
He led the Order for almost twenty years until his death, making it an influential international military and financial institution.
