This sword is designed for combat and has been developed in close collaboration with fencing and martial arts instructor Volker Kunkel and his West-Coast-Institut. Unfortunately, Volker was unable to see the release of this series due to his untimely departure in April 2021. His legacy lives on through this impressive weapon.
Characteristics of the Viking Sword
- Petersen H Type: Inspired by 9th-10th century originals found in Birka, Sweden, and classified as Type H/I according to Petersen's typology of Viking swords. This is historical authenticity in your hands.
- Spring Steel Blade: Forged from high carbon, non-stainless spring steel, oil hardened and tempered to a Rockwell hardness of approximately 48-52 HRC. A combination of resistance and lightness that gives you exceptional performance.
- Extra Wide Fuller: The wide central channel of the blade makes it flexible and light, making it your perfect ally for combat and practice.
- Rounded Tip: With approximately 2-2.5 mm thick edges and a relatively wide, rounded tip, it is perfect for stage combat, ensuring your safety in every movement.
- Two-Part Pommel: Following the design of many historical swords, the triangular pommel is a two-part construction. The full tang of the blade is anchored in the lower section, and the pommel cap is secured to the base by two rivets. This not only provides stability but also adds authenticity.
- Two Blade Lengths Available: You can choose between the long 74 cm version or the short 64 cm version. The short version is ideal for those who are just starting out in the world of fencing and are still developing their strength.
- High-Quality Materials: Leather-wrapped handle, cast steel knob and guard ensure durability and superior performance.
- Perfect Balance: With a balance point located approximately 15 cm from the guard, you will have absolute control over your movements.
