Precious replica of the historical Sword of Sancho IV of Castilla, XIII century. It is a classic rapier from the Middle Ages, S.XIII, cut and pointed. Exclusive high quality sword from the Collection of "Historical Swords" manufactured by MARTO®. Certificate of Origin and Quality, Made in Toledo.

The sword was found in excellent condition. It is a sumptuous weapon for its time, worthy of a Castilian monarch. No mark or stamp of the swordsmith who forged it can be seen on it since this custom was later among the swordsmiths. It is on display to the public at the Toledo Cathedral Tapestry Museum, along with the crown and pillow from the same trousseau.

  • Blade: Highlights the fineness of the chiseling and mirror polishing
  • Frame: Classic cross frame with slightly curved dropped arms and lobed pommel
  • Cross: Rich ornamentation is chiseled on both sides, possibly an Arabic inscription that is repeated without order.
  • Fist: The decoration of the fist matches the rest of the weapon and the coat of arms of Castilla y León. Given the dimensions of the fist, it corresponds to the hand of a man of medium build, thus, judging by his remains, Sancho IV was a frankly tall man. This makes one wonder if the sword, like the crown, was inherited from his father as was the custom.
  • Pommel: All chiseled, displaying beautiful Arabic lacework on the two circles on its faces and on the lateral surfaces of the cones the same motifs are repeated as on the cross.

Length: 102 cm. /41 inches
