Immerse yourself in authenticity and ancient craftsmanship with this 25-piece pack of brass lamellar armor with ribs. Both scale armor and lamellar armor belong to the oldest forms of plate armor. Both were composed of overlapping plates (sheets) joined in horizontal rows to form a dense mesh reminiscent of fish scales. While scale armor was additionally tied, sewn, or riveted to a sturdy backing made of padded cloth or thick leather, lamellar did not require any covering.

Widely used in many cultures and eras, these armors came in a wide variety of styles, shapes and patterns. The materials were varied, from metals such as iron, steel and bronze, to thick and rigid leather, and even horn or ivory.

When well made, this type of body armor was virtually impenetrable to cuts and thrusts, and also provided especially good protection against blunt impact weapons. Popular among warriors from the Middle East, Asia, Rome, and the Vikings, scale chain mail continued to be used well into the Middle Ages.

The set of 25 loose brass scales we offer here is the perfect accessory for ambitious re-enactors wishing to make their own custom scale armor, like a Roman lorica squamata. The scales are not only perfectly suitable for DIY projects, but also ideal as replacement or additional parts for existing armor that you want to repair, customize or expand.

The blades are made of approximately 26 gauge brass and feature a center rib. They are equipped with 5 pre-drilled holes, the largest hole allows you to tie, sew or rivet them to a backing, and the smaller holes on the sides allow the scales to be attached to each other for added stability.
