Our impressive war hammer is directly inspired by an original, currently housed in the Wallace Collection in London. Dating back to the 15th century, this warhammer was in use at a time when the advent of plate armor made the knight's sword far less optimal for fighting a heavily armored opponent. That led to the widespread use of warhammers, not only among heavily armed knights but also among the infantry fighting against them. Well suited to heavily armored opponents, the pointed end of the hammer was capable of stabbing into the joint or weak point of armor, mostly covered only by chain mail.
