The Viking sword was made known in the south of the continent by the Viking peoples. These weapons classified as Viking swords have a morphological evolution such as an increase in the thickness of the blade towards the handle and a progressive decrease towards the tip. They continue to be straight and double-edged fighting swords. Its blade is not so sharp, ending in an almost blunt tip, which denotes the priority of the cut over the rapier. Roman swords are the predecessors of Viking swords which are heavier and larger weapons.

They are primarily attack swords with a short hilt that limits their use to one hand. The Viking sword is the most important in the evolution of this tool towards the Middle Ages.
