The Kamakura period was (1185-1333) was a crucial one in japanese history. Mark the first military government (Shogunate), officially established in 1192 by the shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo. The Tachi was used primarily on the field of battle in melee combat along with armor and a combat knife. Unlike the Katana, the Tachi was used hung from the belt with the cutting edge down.
