Odin is considered the chief god of Norse mythology. His role, like that of many Norse gods, is complex. He is the god of wisdom, war and death. But also it considered, although to a lesser extent, the god of magic, poetry, prophecy, victory and hunting. Odin lived in Asgard, in the palace of Valaskjálf, he built for himself and where his throne, Hliðskjálf, where he could watch what was happening in each of the nine worlds.

In the battle wielding his spear, named Gungnir, and riding his eight-legged horse named Sleipnir. He was the son of Bor and Bestla, brother of Vili and Vé, Frigg husband and father of many gods such as Thor, Balder, Vidar and Vali giant. In skaldic poetry referring to him with countless kenningar and one that is used to mention is Allföðr (father of all).

As god of war, he was responsible for sending their daughters, the Valkyries, to pick up the heroic warriors killed in battle, einherjer, sitting beside her on the Valhalla where he presides over banquets. At the end of time Odin guide to the gods and men against the forces of chaos in the battle at the end of the world, Ragnarök. In this battle the god be killed and eaten by the wolf Fenrir, which will be immediately killed by Vidar, who would tear the jaws and place one foot on the throat.
