The Maschinenpistole 43, 44 and Maschinenpistole stg 44 (MP 43, MP 44 and StG 44, respectively) were the names of a lightweight assault rifle developed by Germany during World War II as part of the program Maschinenkarabiner (carbine machine gun), and evolving MKB 42 (H). This variety of names successor MKB 42 (H) was the result of complications in the bureaucracy of the Third Reich.
