Functional Buckler, 41 cms.

Buckler or small shield used in Europe in the XII-XIII centuries. Made of high carbon steel 1065 of 1.2-1.3 mm. (18 gauge) with wooden handle P>

The shield could be hung from the sheath or the sword belt when the two hands were needed for a pike or a personal weapon. So widespread was its use that the practice of sword and shield became one of the most common sports of the Renaissance.
