Carlos of Austria (or Hapsburg) (Ghent, 24 February 1500 - Monastery of Yuste, 21 September 1558) was King of Spain as Charles I (1516-1556), who first joined in his person the crowns of Castile and Aragon, and Holy Roman Emperor Charles V (1519-1558).
Hijo Juana I of Castile, known as Juana la Loca and Philip the Fair, and grandson by paternal route of Maximilian I of Austria (Habsburg) and Mary of Burgundy (from whom he inherited the Netherlands, the Austrian territories and claim to the throne imperial) and the Catholic Monarchs, from whom he inherited the Kingdom of Castile, Naples, Sicily, India, Aragon and the Canary Islands, from the mother.
