Uses of the Templar Swords
The Templar sword has been used by the Templar Knights to defend the pilgrims on their travel towards Jerusalem. They are clearly regarded as a weapon. Over time Templar order was very active, but they stopped their military campaigns. Nowadays, many Templar groups have kept the discipline and traditions. Most od them are dedicated to social volunteering or charity work too. These Christian groups (no longer military) continue to wear the clothing of the ancient knights and continue to carry the sword to complement their costume. Some of these swords, most representative and symbolic, are given to the high officials of these organizations and they are used for ceremonies. Some modern medieval battles lovers still use functional Templar swords in their training and competitions.
Characteristics of the Templar sword
Templar swords style has changed a lot over time. Nowadays, decorative Templar swords are used to hang them on the walls. They are also used to serve as a complement for Templar Knights costumes. These decorative swords measure approximately 100-110 cm, and they have Templar symbols engraved on the blade. In some of them, those symbols may be present on the hilt, the guard and the pommel. These parts of a Templar Sword usually keep the most authentic Templar symbols, as the Templar cross or the Templar seal.
Templar swords on Middle Ages were much simpler. They did not have many decorations, although they still carried the Templar cross to remind them that they were fighting for the glory of Christ.
